As your state senator, I have championed efforts to make Connecticut a more affordable place to live, work, raise a family, and retire. By advocating for lower taxes, working to reduce burdensome regulations, and supporting pro-business legislation, I am committed to fostering an environment where businesses can thrive and people can prosper. I will continue to fight for common sense policies that protect our state’s financial stability, uphold the fiscal guardrails, ensure the continued growth of our rainy-day fund, and promote long-term economic growth in our state for years to come.
As a mother and a fellow community member, I understand the deep concern that rising crime brings to our district. The safety of our communities is my top priority, and I will continue to support legislation that provides our law enforcement officers with the tools and resources they need to keep us safe. I have worked closely with the law enforcement community and will continue to help advocate for legislation to protect our homes, schools, and neighborhoods. My commitment to backing our police, strengthening protections for victims, and enacting policies that effectively deter crime remains unwavering.
Electric rates are through the roof, and inflation is making our state more and more unaffordable for hardworking residents. I am committed to continuing to fight high energy costs and working to ease the burden on all of us. I understand the urgency of the electric rate crisis and recently stood with my Republican colleagues at multiple press conferences to urge Governor Lamont and Democrats to call us into a special session to provide immediate relief to ratepayers and to adopt long-term solutions to fix this crisis.
As a former social worker and a mother of a child with a disability, I have dedicated my career to advocating for seniors, those with disabilities, veterans, and other vulnerable populations. I understand the unique challenges these groups face, and I am committed to advancing legislation that supports their needs, such as Public Act 24-58, which sets requirements in state law to reduce wait times for wheelchair repairs and Public Act 24-113, which sets new requirements aimed at improving accessibility standards in health care settings and the purchasing of medical equipment. By working hand-in-hand with our communities, I will continue to champion initiatives that create meaningful opportunities and enhance the quality of life for all.
I am committed to expanding mental health services and addressing the pressing challenges of addiction in Connecticut. The need for mental healthcare far outweighs the current resources, and I believe we must take a comprehensive approach to meet this demand. By partnering with nonprofits and the healthcare industry, I will continue working to increase access to quality care, improve treatment options, and address the societal factors that harm our well-being.
The impact of addiction is felt deeply by families across our state, with far too many experiencing the pain and loss it brings. We must do more to support those battling addiction and break this devastating cycle, including providing proactive assistance to individuals and families and enforcing stricter penalties on those who manufacture and distribute illegal substances in our communities.
The scenic and wild beauty of the Farmington River Valley and the Litchfield Hills is a treasure that defines our community. I am deeply committed to preserving and protecting these vital natural resources for future generations. I will continue to support legislation and advocate for policies that safeguard the pristine landscapes, waterways, and ecosystems that make our region so unique.
Our communities thrive when local leaders, who understand the unique needs and concerns of their neighbors, have the authority to make decisions that best serve our towns. As your state senator, I am committed to defending local control and ensuring that our municipalities retain the power to govern in ways that reflect the values and priorities of our district. Those who run our towns are not just officials; they are our friends and neighbors, deeply invested in the well-being of our communities. I will continue to fight against unnecessary interference from the state government in Hartford and work to preserve the autonomy that allows our towns to flourish.
The laws protecting women’s reproductive rights and healthcare are codified in Connecticut and are not changing. It is clear that many in our district value the right to choose, and as YOUR senator, I have not and will not change existing laws regarding women’s healthcare. I do support the prohibition on late-term abortions that is currently part of our state law unless the life of the mother is at risk.
While my own personal beliefs are based on my life experiences and values, I respect my constituents and their varied and diverse opinions and beliefs. As your state senator, I will continue to represent the best interests of all in our district, which I have done in my legislative efforts, as my voting record reflects.
